Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture Neri,Hamirpur (HP)

Floriculture is a branch of horticulture that deals with cultivation of flowering and ornamental plants for direct sale or for use as raw materials in cosmetic and perfume industry and in the pharmaceutical sector. It also includes production and sale of planting materials. The department is currently imparting education to UG students, engage in extension and research activities. Other floricultural activities like propagation, maintenance of existing ornamentals and landscape activities of the campus is going on. Nursery of annual flower crops and pot plants are also available for sale in the department. Experiential learning programme in the department was started during 2020.

The scientists of the Department deliver lectures in the trainings organized by the University, Directorate of Extension Education/ State Department of Horticulture/ Agriculture and other line departments from time to time. The department provides consultancy on landscaping and flower production. The scientist of Department extend the know - how on floriculture through various radio talks and publication of articles in the magazines.

Mandate

  • Introduction, evaluation and multiplication of ornamentals suitable for this region.
  • Standardization of agro-techniques of cut and loose flower production
  • Dissemination of technology for commercialization of ornamentals.

Strengths

  • One floral craft laboratory for UG students
  • The Department has been allotted research area of about 10 bigha for carrying research and extension activities.
  • Commercial flower crops like Marigold, Gladiolus, Rose, Chrysanthemum and Tuberose are grown in the field.

  • Dr. Jagreeti Gupta awarded with best oral presentation award in the National symposium on “Recent advances in floriculture and urban horticulture in global perspective” at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani, West Bengal Dt. 04th-05th January 2018.
