Reservation of Seats

Admission to M.Sc/ MBA (Agribusiness) Programmes shall be open to all eligible persons subject to the reservation of seats as under:-

a) 25% of the total seats shall be filled up by the ICAR quota through an All India Entrance Examination conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.

b) From the remaining seats, 50% of the seats shall be reserved for the H.P. Quota (These seats are for the candidates who are bonafide Himachali).  However, if some normal seats remain vacant, the candidates having passed their qualifying examination from the institution/ university situated in territorial jurisdiction of Himachal Pradesh will be considered on merit basis) and shall be filled up by this University as normal seats in the following manner:-

i) Out of these 50% seats, 15% of the seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates and 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribe candidates (totalling 22.5% reserved seats), while the remaining seats shall be kept for general category candidates. However, the reservation for SC/ ST candidates shall be made in accordance with 100 point roster system in each college by arranging disciplines alphabetically and filling the assigned reserved seats discipline-wise only. In case, the seat assigned to SC/ ST category remains vacant due to non-availability of candidates, the same shall be filled from general category of bonafide Himachali under H.P. Quota.

c) Remaining 50% seats shall be open for all at National level and shall be filled   up by the University as self-financing seats.

  
5% of the total seats shall be reserved for the PH candidates having permanent disability of not less than 40% (Low vision, hearing impairment, locomotor disability or cerebral palsy) found suitable by the admission committee, provided the candidate is otherwise fit for admission. The candidates will be required to perform field operations, activities pertaining to Horticulture/ Forestry and allied disciplines. These seats will be over and above the intake capacity and may remain vacant in case of non-availability of suitable candidates in this category.

 

 


Minimum Qualification

(a) MSc programmes

BSc Horticulture/ BSc (Hons.) Horticulture/ BSc Forestry/ BSc (Hons.) Forestry/ BSc Agriculture/ BSc (Hons.) Agriculture/ BSc with an OGPA of 6.00/10 under course credit system or with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognized University or degree from a foreign University with at least 'B' grade or its equivalent recognized by the University.

The discipline wise qualification for admission to various MSc programmes shall be as under:-

 i) MSc (Horticulture) Fruit Science

BSc Horticulture 4-year programme. However, if any seat remains vacant, the candidates with BSc Agriculture 4-year programme shall be considered on merit basis in the third counselling of admission amongst candidates attending third counselling.

ii) MSc (Horticulture) Floriculture & Landscape Architecture and MSc Vegetable Science

BSc Horticulture/ Agriculture 4-year programme.

iii) MSc Food Technology

BSc/ BTech Food Technology /BSc Horticulture/ Agriculture/ Home Science 4-year programme.

iv) MSc (Ag.) Seed Science & Technology and MSc Spices, Plantation and Medicinal & Aromatic Plants

BSc Horticulture/ Forestry/ Agriculture 4-year programme

v) MSc (Ag.) Entomology and  Plant Pathology

BSc Horticulture/ Agriculture/ Forestry 4-year programme

vi) MSc Molecular Biology & Biotechnology

 BSc/ BTech Biotechnology 4-year programme. However, if some seats remain vacant, the candidates with BSc Horticulture/ Agriculture or three year Biotechnology/ Medical subjects* shall be considered on merit basis in the third counselling of admission amongst candidates attending third counselling.

vii) MSc (Forestry) Silviculture, Forest Genetic Resources, Wood Science & Technology

BSc Forestry 4-year programme. However, if any seat remains vacant, the candidates with BSc Agriculture 4-year programme/ BSc Medical*/ BSc with 2-year Ranger Certificate course from recognized University/ College shall be considered on merit basis in the third counselling of admission amongst candidates attending third counselling.

viii) MSc (Forestry) Agroforestry, Environmental Management and Medicinal & Aromatic Plants

BSc Forestry/ Horticulture/ Agriculture 4-year programme. However, if any seat remains vacant, the candidates with BSc Medical*/ BSc with 2-year Ranger Certificate course from recognized University/ College shall be considered on merit basis in the third counselling of admission amongst candidates attending third counselling.

ix) MSc (Ag.) Soil Science and Agricultural Economics

 BSc Forestry/ Horticulture/ Agriculture 4-year programme.

x) MSc Microbiology

BSc Forestry/ Horticulture/ Agriculture/ Biotechnology 4-year programme. However, if some seats remain vacant, the candidates with three year BSc Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Medical* shall be considered on merit basis in the third counselling of admission amongst candidates attending third counselling.

xi) MSc Environmental Science

BSc Forestry/ Horticulture/ Agriculture/ Biotechnology 4-year programme. However, if some seats remain vacant, the candidates with B Sc three year Environmental Science/ Medical*/ Non-medical** shall be considered on merit basis in the third counselling of admission amongst candidates attending third counselling.

xii) MSc Statistics

 BSc Forestry /Horticulture/Agriculture 4-year programme. However, if some seats remain vacant, the candidates with three years B Sc Statistics/ Non-medical** shall be considered on merit basis in the third counselling of admission amongst candidates attending third counselling.

*   Medical:    Botany, Zoology/ Biotechnology and Chemistry
** Non-Medical:   Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

(b) MBA (Agribusiness) Programme:

BSc Agricultural Sciences with an OGPA of 6.00/10 under course credit system or with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognized University or degree from a foreign University with at least 'B' grade or its equivalent recognized by the University. 


Basis of Admission

  1. The basis of admission to MSc Programmes shall be merit as determined by the result of the entrance test conducted by this University.
  2. The basis of admission to MBA (Agribusiness) Programme shall be merit of the entrance test conducted by this University followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview to be conducted by the University. The final selection will be based on the candidate’s overall performance in the entrance test conducted by the University, group discussion & personal interview as per weightage given below:-

  4. While determining the merit, the following percentage of marks shall be added to the result of those who have distinguished themselves in sports and games recognized by the Indian Olympic Association/Association of Indian Universities and for significant participation in NCC and co-curricular activities:-

Provided that:

  1. The above weightage can be availed of only once and only when the position obtained/ participation made is not earlier than four academic years preceding the year of admission.
  2. Only one of the above weightage, which is the most beneficial to a candidate, shall be allowed while determining relative merit.
  3. The games/ sports should have been organized by the Sports Authority of India/ Indian Olympic Association/ Inter-University Sports Board/All India School Games Federation/ State Government.
  4. All sports/ games/ cultural activities (literary activities and fine art) recognized by the Government of Himachal Pradesh will only be recognized by the Dr Y S Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry for giving weightage in admissions to various programmes.

d) In case two or more candidates obtain the same percentage of marks, the candidate with highest marks at qualifying examination i.e. B.Sc. degree level shall be considered for admission. In case tie still occurs, the elder in age will be considered for admission.

e) The merit of the candidates will be determined keeping in view the reservation of various categories of seats.
