Reservation of Seats

Domiciles of HP

75% of the total seats are filled by the University on the basis of Counselling

ICAR Quota 25% of the total seats are filled by the ICAR on the basis of All India Entrance Test
Open for all at National Level A few seats are open for all at National Level and are filled by the University

Admission to Ph D programs shall be on the basis of merit of the qualifying degree. 75% of the total seats are reserved for domiciles of Himachal Pradesh. The remaining 25% of the total seats are filled on the basis of merit at National level by the University.


Minimum Qualification

  • M Sc degree in concerned discipline with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Phil degree in concerned discipline from a recognized University under UGC system of education in case the M Sc degree is from a recognized University other than under ICAR system of education. The candidate must have also secured OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks) at M Sc level.
  • In the discipline of Food Technology and Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, M Tech degree holders with an OGPA of 6.50/10.00 (65% marks) are also eligible

B. Degree of a Foreign University with atleast B Grade/ equivalent as recognized by the Academic Council.

 

The minimum qualification for admission to Ph D degree programme in respect of different disciplines in order of preference shall be as under:-

Ph D Horticulture (Floriculture & Landscape Architecture, Fruit Science, Vegetable Science) & Ph D Seed Science & Technology

M Sc degree in concerned discipline with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).

 

Ph D Food Technology

  • M Sc degree in Food Technology/ Food Science & Technology with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Tech degree in Food Technology holders with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme and an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65 % marks).

 

Ph D (Forestry) Agroforestry, Forest Genetic Resources, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants, Silviculture, Wood Science & Technology

  • M Sc degree in concerned discipline with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).

PROVISO: For the disciplines of Forest Genetic Resources, Silviculture, Agroforestry, Wood Science & Technology, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants, Natural Resource Economics; first priority shall be given to the candidates having specialization in the same discipline. However, if any seat remains vacant in any of these disciplines, the candidates from across other disciplines within the group viz., Forest Genetic Resources, Silviculture, Agroforestry, Wood Science & Technology, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants, Plantation Technology and Watershed Management shall also be considered on merit basis.

  • For Ph D (Forestry) Agroforestry, the candidates with M Sc Horticulture/ Agriculture/ Animal Science with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks)/ candidates with AIFC diploma will also be eligible.

 

Ph D Soil Science

M Sc degree in Soil Science with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks). However, if any seat remains vacant, the candidates with M Sc (Forestry) Watershed Management shall be considered on merit basis.

 

Ph D Agricultural Economics

  • M Sc degree in Agricultural Economics/ Economics with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Phil degree in Agricultural Economics/ Economics from a recognized University under UGC system of education with 65% marks. The candidate must have also secured 65% marks at M Sc level.

 

Ph D Entomology

  • M Sc degree in Entomology with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • (ii) M Phil degree in Entomology/ Zoology from a recognized University under UGC system of education with 65% marks. The candidate must have also secured 65% marks at M Sc level.

 

Ph D Nematology

  • M Sc degree in Nematology with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Phil degree in Nematology/ Zoology from a recognized University under UGC system of education with 65% marks. The candidate must have obtained 65% marks at M Sc level.

 

Ph D Plant Pathology

  • M Sc degree in Plant Pathology/ Mycology & Plant Pathology with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Phil degree in Plant Pathology/ Botany from a recognized University under UGC system of education with 65% marks. The candidate must have obtained 65% marks at M Sc level.

 

Ph D Molecular Biology & Biotechnology

  • M Sc degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology/ Biotechnology with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Phil degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology/ Biotechnology from a recognized University under UGC system of education with 65% marks. The candidate must have also secured 65% marks at M Sc level.
  • M Tech degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology holders with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme and an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65 % marks).

 

Ph D Microbiology

  • M Sc degree in Microbiology with research thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the programme in the concerned discipline from a recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Phil degree in Microbiology from a recognized University under UGC system of education with 65% marks. The candidate must have obtained atleast 65% marks at M Sc level.

 

Ph D Environmental Science

(a)

  • M Sc (Forestry) Environmental Management/ M Sc Environmental Science with thesis in partial fulfilment of the programme from recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Sc Forestry/ Horticulture/ Agriculture and its allied disciplines with thesis in partial fulfillment of the programme from recognized University under ICAR system of education with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks).
  • M Phil degree in Bio-Sciences/ Physical Sciences from a recognized University under UGC system of education with 65% marks. The candidate must have also secured 65% marks at M Sc level.

(b)

  • In-service candidates with M Sc degree from ICAR/ State/ Central Institutes including Associate of IGFNA with diploma equivalent to M Sc Forestry with an OGPA of 6.50/10 (65% marks). For such candidates having atleast 3 years research/ teaching experience, the requirement of thesis in partial fulfillment at M Sc shall be relaxed.

Basis of Admission

  1. The basis of admission shall be merit as determined by the result of the qualifying degree examination.
  2. While determining the merit, weightage will be added to the result of the qualifying degree examination for sports, NSS and other co-curricular activities.
