Ans. Biotechnology is the branch of science which derives benefits from the properties and capabilities of plants, animals and microbial cell cultures at the technological level.

Q.2. What are the different branches of biotechnology?

Ans. Different branches of biotechnology are:
Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Microbial Biotechnology.

Q.3. The department of biotechnology at Dr YS Parmar university is confined to which branch of Biotechnology?

Ans. Plant Biotechnology.

Q.4. What type of work is carried out in the department of Biotechnology?

Ans. i) Plant Tissue Culture.
       ii) Plant Molecular Biology (Genetic transformation, Molecular Markers, Gene Tagging).

Q. 5. Which crops are mainly used for research in the department?

I) Horticulture Crops.

Q.7. What are the courses in biotechnology offered by the university and when do the admissions take place?

Ans. M.Sc And Ph.D Biotechnology. Admissions process for M.Sc programme starts in the month of July and for Ph.D it starts in the month of January

Q.8. What is the admission criteria for these programmes?

Ans. Admission to M.Sc and Ph.D is purely on merit obtained in the previous degree.

Q.9. What is the duration of M.Sc and Ph.D programme?

Ans. Duration is 2 years for M.Sc and 3-5years for Ph.D.

Ans. Yes summer training which starts on 21st June and ends on 5th August.
