Introduction
The College of Horticulture and Forestry at Neri, Hamirpur is the third constituent college of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan (H P). It came into existence on 19th April, 2011 as Institute of Biotechnology and Environmental Science and was renamed as College of Horticulture and Forestry on 27th August, 2014.

The college caters to the needs of the Sub montane low hills zone (Zone-I) and Mid hills Sub humid zone (Zone-II) in Himachal Pradesh consisting of districts of Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una and parts of districts Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Shimla, Kullu and Sirmour.
The college is engaged in imparting quality education in Horticulture, Forestry and Biotechnology streams at the undergraduate level. While the postgraduate programme in nine disciplines viz. Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Food Technology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Biotechnology, Silviculture, Agro-forestry and Soil Science has been started from the academic session 2017-18.The recommendations of the IV Deans’ committee have been implemented at the undergraduate level and from the academic session 2017-18, the V Deans’ committee recommendations are being followed. As per V Deans’ committee recommendations, the nomenclature of B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology has been changed to B.Tech. Biotechnology.
Since the inception of the College, 153 students of B. Sc. (Hons) Horticulture and 81 students of B. Sc (Hons) Biotechnology have completed their degrees from this college; many of them are pursuing higher studies from various reputed institutions like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Bangalore, IIT Mumbai, BHU Varanasi, Mc Gill University Canada, MPUAT Udaipur, etc. or are employed in different public or private sectors including the State Department of Horticulture.
The College of Horticulture and Forestry has a strength of 35 faculty members engaged in teaching, research and extension education activities of the college besides engagement of guest faculty in specialized subjects. For strengthening PG teaching and research, 13 new departments viz. Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture & Landscape Architecture, Food Science & Technology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Biotechnology, Silviculture & Agro-forestry, Tree Improvement & Genetic Resources, Forest Products, Soil Science, Social Science and Basic Science have been restructured.
VISION
- To build an institution of excellence for learning in Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines with a purpose to create human resource capable of meeting present and future needs of farm science education, industry and other stake holders.
OBJECTIVES
- To impart skill based education in horticulture, forestry and allied disciplines to develop entrepreneurship and employability at grass root level.
- To expand the reach of professional agriculture education to eligible and deserving students of rural and semi rural areas of farming community.
- To establish viable and fruitful linkages with regional, national and international organization in horticulture, forestry and allied disciplines.
- To become a scale neutral lead resource data centre for education and research in horticulture, forestry and allied disciplines.

The main campus of the college is spread over an area of about 29.76 hectares consisting of 14 ha at village Neri (Neri-I), 10.44 ha at Khaggal (Neri-II) and 5.32 ha at RHFRS, Bhota which cater to the needs of students’ experiments, practical and teachers'-cum-scientists' research experimental trials.
