About KVK Rohru Shimla

Introduction and brief history

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shimla at Rohru, which is a part of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Nauni, Solan was established in May 1995 for strengthening transfer of technology to the farming communities of District Shimla with the objective to promote cultivation of high value cash crops like temperate fruits, off-season vegetable crops, increasing area under oil seeds and pulses and training in various aspects of Horticulture and Forestry for increasing productivity and self employment.



• Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a project of ICAR for testing and transfer of the agricultural technologies to bridge the gap between the production and productivity and to increase self- employment opportunities amongst the farming communities. In order to achieve the objectives, the KVK has to carry out activities as under in order to fulfil its mandate:

  1. To organize vocational training programmes in agriculture and allied enterprises
  2. On farm testing (on farmers' field) in crop production, horticulture, livestock production, fisheries etc.
  3. Frontline demonstrations on major cereal crops, oil seeds and pulses and other enterprises related to agriculture, and
  4. In- service training of field level extension officials

National Nutrition Week celebrated ( 1st - 7th September, 2018) by KVK Shimla at Rohru.


Mahila Kisan Diwas programme celebrated on 15th October, 2017 at KVK Shimla at Rohru.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shimla at Rohru is located at Karalash which is about 120 Km away from Shimla town. Shimla district, which is the operational area of the Kendra, lies in the outer and lower Himalayas between 310 45' latitude and 77-780 25' longitudes. The altitudes of the district varies 2500 to 16000 feet, the lowest and highest points being the Sunni Tehsil and Chansal pass respectively.The hills and mountainous ranges are generally aligned in the east- west direction which presents a complicated pattern of relief. The predominantly rough terrain, the prevalence of interlocking spurs, narrow and steep side’s valleys throughout the district, reflect the youthfulness of its topography.
