About Library
Satyanand Stokes Library of Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, named after Mr. Satyanand Stokes, a native of U.S. 
who became Indian National and heralded apple revolution in Himachal Pradesh. It is a well established modern library catering to the information needs of the academic community of the University. The library initiated the computerization operation in April 1989 and could make a significance headway in the application of modern information technology in information management to cope with the ever increasing flow of information. The whole collection of the library is computerized and OPAC is electronically accessible.
The most significant development in the library has been the introduction of E.Mail & Internet facilities on January 1,1998 when the University was brought on Global Network through V-SAT. Faster ISDN connectivity was introduced on March 27,2003. Later on May 10,2005, the connectivity was taken from Computer & Instrumentation Centre, through 1 Gbps leased line from BSNL. The use of this facility is encouraging. By availing this facility, the participation of scientists in national and international conferences was reported to have increased and publication of papers similarly expedited. Ours is the first SAU library in the country which has been converted in to Wi-Fi Library in 2003-2004 besides introducing SOUL (Software for University Libraries) to facilitate its automation functions. In 2005 bar-coding of books was completed. In the year 2007, Multimedia Centre with a total cost of Rs. 60 Lakhs funded by ICAR was established and the library is now in a better position to provide information services to the faculty and students. During 2008-09 the scientists/teachers and students have been given electronic access to 2000+ e-journals w.e.f. Jul 23,2008 through CERA:Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture; all the Ph.D., M.Sc. and MBA projects reports have been digitized under ICAR Krishi-Kosh database for open access in full text. Library has also establsihed institutional repository on D-space open source softare. For linking the Regional Research Stations of the university with the library, the connectivity facilities have been established at the Regional Stations of the University, so that the scientists / Staff working there can access the latest information and be in a position to communicate fast through E-Mail. In 2011, the library organised a National Conference on Transformation of Agricultural Libraries in Collaborative Era in collaboration with The Association of Agricultural Librarians and Documentalists of 
India (AALDI) in which about 130 Library & Information professionals, documentalists, IT professionals, publishers, teachers, students and other stake holders from various organisations across the country participated. In 2018, the library installed Web Centric KOHA (open source) Library Management software and its Online Public Access Catalogue can be accessed on the web. Further the scientists/ staff of the Regional Stations/ KVKs of the University are now in a position to access the WEB OPAC to meet their information needs. Recently the library has installed 3M Tattle Tape Electromagnetic System for protecting books, CDs, DVDs and many other items from being stolen. In 2019 library has implemenetd RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology self check in/out Kiosk, with smart library member card to facilitate the users to issue/retrun of the books in the library without intervention of the library staff.
MULTIMEDIA CENTRE
Multimedia is the integration of text, graphics, sound, animation and video to convey information. The technology savvy library of the University has established the Multimedia Centre with a total cost of Rs.60 Lakhs funded by ICAR. This Centre was inaugurated by Dr. Mangla Rai, Director General, ICAR on May 15,2007.
The objectives of the centre are to create digital databases and products; collect digital resources in textual, audio-video or produced in any other formats useful to the academic community of the University supporting and strengthening teaching, research and extension education; provide access to e-contents, e-knowledgebase including multimedia contents; and to establish linkage to ICAR-net, ICAR-e-journals consortium, Regional Research Stations and other related institutions.
This Centre is equipped with 40 computers out of which 25 computers have internet facilities. Two UPS of 10KVA & 7.5 KVA capacity have been installed in this Centre. One Xerox Phaser 7400 Colour Laser Printer and One Digital Multifunctional Photocopier have been installed for quality printout services. Techfocuz software ver.3.02 has been installed in the CD Mirror Server for storage of VCDs, DVDs, Audio CDs, bootable CDs, e-magazines and e-books CDs. The software enables to search multiple CDs and DVDs together with a single search command for comprehensive search. These products are searchable under network environment by all the users simultaneously.
The Multimedia Centre informs, educates, persuades and entertains the readers with dazzling effects of colour animation and sound. Through its possible applications, the multimedia centre delivers information in variety of ways. It has enhanced the information capabilities of the library. It is hoped that this centre will play a very pivotal role in information communication system of the library in future. 
Building
The Library is housed in a beautiful building and offers excellent environment for study. The reading area has PVC flooring to reduce the noise. The Library has plinth area of 3975 sq mtrs and reading space of 665.60 sq mtrs. It has a capacity to accommodate 356 readers in common reading area and 13 cubicles are available for research scholars. The ground floor of Library building is being used by the Computer and Instrumentation Centre and Distribution Information Sub-centre (Sub-DIC). The Library has provided one reading area for the usage of laptops and personal books with charging facilities. The library is fully accessible to differently abled users through the ramp and stair cases.
