COH&F Neri wins Entomology Quiz; Swarajjit wins Insect Photography award

 

The Entomology Club of the Department of Entomology of the university organised a Quiz competition at the university campus. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Chandel congratulated the Entomology Club for creating a healthy academic and competitive spirit among the students. He said that it was heartening to see wonderful pictures clicked by the students which not only engaged them in outdoor activities but also linked them to their academics. He also appreciated the highly competitive spirit and the high intellect level shown by the participants during the quiz competition. He suggested that the questions asked during the quiz must be compiled into a compendium which could be used during different exams.

Seven teams comprising four members each took part in the quiz competition on entomology organised by the club. Teams from three colleges- the College of Horticulture from the main campus at Nauni and the College of Horticulture and Forestry at Neri and Thunag took part in the competition. The participants consisted of BSc and MSc students. The quiz consisted of four rounds- General round, Spelling bee round, Identification round and Rapid fire round and one team was eliminated after each round.

The winners of the quiz competition were team Orthoptera comprising  Muskan, Nikhil Kumar, Abhinandan Goswami and Rohit Sharma from the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Neri. The second and third positions were bagged by teams from the Nauni campus. The Coleoptera team comprising Aryan Bhandari, Anchal, Kanishka and Swadha Sood bagged the second prize while team Diptera consisting of Simran Sharma, Mehak Manta, Chetna and Diksha Khanna stood third. The club also organized an Insect Photography Competition in which 40 entries were received. Swaraj Jit Singh bagged the first prize while Tanya and Akhilesh stood second and third respectively. Earlier, Dr. Subhash Verma, HOD of the Department of Entomology welcomed the guests and explained that through the events the department aims to create awareness about entomology.
