Research Activities
Thrust Area
- Evaluation of newly introduced and already existing germplasm of temperate fruits for growth, yield and quality.
- Evaluation of spur type apple on vigorous clonal rootstocks and of traditional regular bearing pollinizer of apple for production and productivity. Further strengthening of bud wood bank especially of apple.
- Development of superior and high yielding, disease resistant varieties in crops like pea, tomato and capsicum and simultaneously developing package of practice for exotic and less known vegetables. Seed production of superior varieties will also be undertaken for the benefit of farmers.
- Efforts for validation of protected ultivation techniques of vegetables under the prevailing conditions will be made.
- Studies on propagation of bulbous flower crops and standardization of cultivation practices for major cut flower crops.
- Development of bamboo based agri-horticultural farming systems.
- Development of package of practices for temperate aromatic and medicinal plants.
- Diagnosis and integrated management of emerging insect-pests and disease problems in horticultural crops.
- The diseases of pomegranate plantations in Kullu and Mandi districts will be studied in detail and their integrated management systems will be developed.
- Refinement of existing IPM/IDM techniques to make them more ecofriendly and economical.
- Evaluation of organic/bio-fertilizers, bio-control agents, plant products and other eco-friendly techniques on production and protection of horticultural crops.
- Conservation and scientific management of indigenous honey bee for promoting pollination management in horticultural crops.
