Protected Cultivation - A Success Story
Successful pace of mushroom farming in chamba district of himachal pradesh
Diversification of agriculture by a marginal farmer at remote area of Chamba district
The officials of the line departments are the main link between the KVK and the farmers especially the field functionaries of Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, DRDA, CDPO etc. The line departments sponsor the various training programmes at KVK Chamba and ensure the participation of progressive farmers and orchardists. In different off-campus training programmes also the field functionaries of line departments form an integral part and organize the identified groups. For laying out the demonstrations as well as the On Farm trials the officials of the line departments help in providing all the logistic support. The Officials of these departments are also members of the SAC and contribute in the planning and execution of different demonstrations and trainings as well as raise the issues for refining of technologies by the KVK. The KVK also organizes various trainings/ Field Days/ Kisan Goshthis/ Farmers’ fairs with the active collaboration of these line departments. The KVK carries out the activities under ATMA and Horticulture Technology Mission being operational in the state Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, respectively. The problem specific surveys and diagnostic visits are also planned in consultation with the officials of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments. The field problems being faced by the officials of the state departments are also discussed with the KVK scientists and recommendations made thereafter.
The KVK Chamba has been constantly in touch with the farmers and has been providing them farm advisory services both telephonically and through diagnostic field visits or farmers’ visit to the campus. Besides, the KVK Chamba has also launched a mobile farm advisory service to the farmers through SMS on the registered mobile phones.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chamba is involved in the State and Centrally sponsored projects in the district by way of providing technical backup in the various activities in such projects like RKVY, ATMA, Pt. DDU Kisan Bagwan Samridhi Yojna and Horticulture technology Mission.
The KVK has responded to the need for research-based case studies, particularly for grass-root workers and farming community. Technical back-strapping and action research addressed to the system's management issues has led to major policy decisions by ICAR. The outcome of these efforts has also greatly benefitted the training activities and the visibility of KVK.
Dissemination of technologies through AIR, Doordarshan, Websites and Newspapers:
The KVK activities have regularly found mention in different print and electronic media and the scientists have also been delivering talks on different topics both on AIR and Doordarshan. The KVK also organized a Crop Seminar at Salooni on 26th April, 2010.
