About University

Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, was established on 1st December, 1985 with the objective to promote education, research and extension education in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines. The University has earned a unique distinction not only in the country but also in whole of Asia to impart teaching, research and extension education in horticulture, forestry and allied disciplines with Himalayan perspective. Its milestones in teaching, research and extension education have strengthened the path of sustainable development of horticulture and forestry in Himachal Pradesh and have further presented a model of prosperity for eco-conscious development before Indian Himalayan states & entire region of Hindu Kush Himalayas.

The University is located at Nauni in Solan District of Himachal Pradesh, 13 km from Solan on Solan-Rajgarh Road, at an elevation of 1300 metres above mean sea level. Solan town is situated on national highway (NH-22) and is well connected by train and bus services.

One of the mandate of the university is to provide teaching facilities in horticulture, forestry and allied sciences under mountain perspective of Himachal Pradesh. University offers UG (B.Sc. Honors), M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and its allied sciences including MBA and MBA (Agri-Business) through its constiuents Colleges.

Research
Research

Directorate of Research is the nodal authority to plan, implement, monitor, evaluate and coordinate research activities of various departments and Research Stations situated in all agro-climatic zones of the State as well as postgraduate and doctoral research carried out in the university. Regional Research and Training Stations throughout the state have been established in all the agro-climatic zones of the state with the mandate to carry out research programs which are need based and location specific.

Extension Education
Extension Education

Directorate of Extension Education provide trainings and transfer of technology to the farmers, rural youth and field functionaries of the line departments. It works in close collaboration with the various departments of four colleges of the university, Five KVKs, Directorates of Agriculture and Horticulture, Agricultural Technology Management Agency, ICAR and other extension education agencies.
